The Kings have high hopes heading into the season, but they'll need to reach a deal with defenseman Drew Doughty to have their best chance at success. The two sides haven't made any progress recently. As training camp rapidly approaches, the possibility of Doughty missing actual playing time is becoming more and more real.

Teemu Selanne hinted that he wants to return to the Ducks for one more season. The only thing holding him back might be his knee issues. Selanne, 41, said he's "very optimistic" about a return, which is probably a hint that he's feeling pretty good.

Talks between the Bruins and Andrew Marchand appear to have hit a wall. The Boston Globe reports that "both sides remain stone silent." Logan Couture's two-year deal for $5.75 million with San Jose may help provide a starting point Marchand, who is one year older but had 15 fewer regular season points than Couture.

The Islanders are still looking to add a few players before the start of the regular season. "[GM Garth Snow] is not done," a scout said. "I know he tried all summer to add a defenseman, but the (Christian) Ehrhoff thing went bust because they wouldn't give him a blank check up front and he hasn't been able to connect on another deal like he did with [James] Wisniewski last summer."

The Red Wings are giving Fabian Brunnstrom a tryout and they could be his last chance to make it in the NHL. Brunnstrom spent last season in the AHL and didn't make a huge impression on anyone. "The Red Wings have a history of successful reclamation projects and the roster is loaded with fellow Swedes, including Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom," writes The Sporting News.

The Jets are apparently interested in signing Kyle Wellwood. However, Winnipeg isn't necessarily Wellwood's first choice. Wellwood reportedly wants to return to the Sharks, but it doesn't look like they want to sign him quite yet.

There are still no details regarding the contract talks between the Bruins and Andrew Marchand. Still, there is every reason to believe Marchand and Boston will have a deal hammered out ahead of training camp.

The Flyers have invited former NHL center Michael Nylander to their training camp on a professional tryout basis, the team confirmed Wednesday. Nylander, who will turn 39 in October, last played in the NHL for Washington during the 2008-09 season, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Ducks may be interested in signing Trent Hunter. Hunter's apparent signing with Anaheim on Friday was just that -- a false rumor that only took flight due to a computer glitch. Hunter, an unrestricted free agent after being bought out by New Jersey, has not signed with any NHL team.

There has been no significant movement on a new contract for Bruins left winger Brad Marchand. He is a restricted free agent without arbitration rights. He scored 19 points in 25 playoff games for Boston. Both the Bruins and Marchard's agent declined to comment on talks.
